Make sure you get the best Amazon Prime bargains

Amazon Prime Day is here again. Actually it is for 48 hours and now called “Amazon Prime Big Deal Days”.*  You need to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of the event which provides some hugely discounted prices on a wide range of products. It is possible to snap up a great bargain. But you should be aware of the pitfalls too.

Here are some tips on how to tackle Amazon Prime Day smartly:

  • Do your homework before you buy anything!
  • Go for a free Prime trial if you haven’t had one already but be careful to cancel it before the end of the free term, if you do not want to continue.
  • Have a list of things you want before looking, it’s not a saving if you don’t need or want it!
  • Likely good buys will be in electronics and Amazon own products, such as its Echo Dot smart speaker.

But beware!

Which? has found in previous deals that items such as car seats, whilst having passed the legal safety checks, do badly in their tests which are to a higher standard. Items on sale are often one of their “don’t buys”, so do your homework before making a purchase.

  • Use Camel Camel Camel to see what prices products have been on Amazon, it provides all the different prices at which the item has sold since going on sale, so will give you an idea if you have found a true bargain.
  • Use price checkers like Google shopping, Kelkoo and Price Spy to find other stockists for items. Just because it is on Amazon doesn’t mean it’s always the least expensive.
  • Check out Amazon Warehouse too, as this may have prices cut down as well.
  • With JamDoughnut you can earn reward points by buying pre-payment gift cards to use online, in-store or on the phone. Take out your cashback after you’ve received £10 worth in points. There’s up to 1.5% off at the moment, not huge but every little helps!

Happy bargain hunting!
