Looking for consumer advice? Read this first 👇
Most questions I’m asked are already answered on this website. If you’re looking for a clear, structured approach (including templates you can use), the best place to start is the book How to Complain The Essential Consumer Guide to Getting Refunds, Redress and Results!
I receive a high volume of messages every day from people asking for help with consumer problems. To make this fair and manageable, I ask everyone to check the relevant information on the website first and tell me what you’ve already read.
Where a question is already covered, I’ll usually reply with links to the relevant pages or guidance on how to get the most out of the free content, rather than writing a full bespoke answer each time. This allows me to help as many people as possible.
Please note:
I don’t provide detailed, case-specific advice for free.
If you would like me to review your situation, advise on next steps, or help you pursue a complaint, this is part of my paid support service (details available on my services page). Most people who want hands-on help choose this option.
Thank you for understanding.
Before asking for help, please do the following:
• Read the basics: Start with the 20 Top Tips for Complaining.
• Search this website: Find three posts that relate to your issue. Use the search box (top right) and type key words relating to the issue (not the company name, as the advice applies across businesses and won’t show under a specific company).
If you’re not sure what to search, start with simple terms like “refund”, “faulty”, “delay”, or “complaint”.
Copy and paste three relevant links (they must start www.thecomplainingcow.co.uk/…) and briefly explain why they don’t fully answer your question. (This website, not my social media.)
• Follow on social media: Choose at least one platform and follow me. Sharing a post (such as the Top 20 Tips) and tagging me is always appreciated.
• Use your manners: Please include basic courtesy such as “please” when asking for help and “thank you” in your message.
Messages that don’t include the above are unlikely to receive a reply.
And just so we’re clear to businesses:
❌ No sponsored posts. Ever.
❌ No “can I guest post?” emails. Ever.
❌ No promotional pitches (see my services page instead).
These will be deleted faster than you can say “complaint upheld.”
If this site or a response from me has helped you, please consider buying me some chocolate (don’t like coffee!) to help me continue to provide this free advice. Thank you.
