About Joe Nutkins
Joe Nutkins, CPCFT, KCAI (CD), CDTI, shares her home with her husband Jon, two Norwich Terriers Merlin and Ripley and Aero the teenage Chocolate Labrador she is training as an assistance dog for Dogs for Autism. We mustn’t forget also the 4 Cockerels, 30+ chickens, 30 ducks, 1 house duck called Echo, 3 ferrets, 9 quail, 2’parrots and a Hamster! To say it’s a busy household is an understatement!
Joe involves her dogs in as much as she can, which is aided by her full time role as Dog Trainer and her dogs come to training and even help with some of the sessions when they need a demo dog or a dog for distractions! As they travel very well they get to go on some great walks and adventures including Stand Up Boarding and Canoe sessions, helping at a Dog Show displays and even some TV and Radio appointments!
Joe runs the Dog Training for Essex & Suffolk centre in Ardleigh, Essex which offers pet dog training both in person and online for all breeds and ages. Running over 16 years this year, Joe works with Pet Dog Owners with their Puppies, Teenager, Adult and Senior Dogs on a wide range of topics such as regular obedience training, Recall work, Canine Fitness Training, Scentwork, Sports like Hoopers, Heelwork to Music and Agility, Senior Dogs Training and more! Joe provides training both in person and online,to help people preferring to stay home or who live further away.
One of Joe’s main passions in dog training is Canine Fitness for all ages, plus working with Senior Dogs to help them stay mobile and strong for longer. As a Certified Professional Canine Fitness Trainer Joe loves working with dogs to help them lead a pain free life, return to their favourite activities after injury or illness and to help work through behaviours caused by dogs being in discomfort.
Joe first received her Diplomas in Dog Training, Canine Behaviour and Human Counselling Skills in 2015 through The Central School of Dog Training and has continued to attend courses, take her own dogs training, read books and enroll on online courses to increase her knowledge of dogs. In 2015 Joe achieved her Kennel Club Accredited Instructor status, something that takes several years and covers a wealth of topics, followed by the Certified Professional Canine Fitness Trainer in the same year. In 2013 Joe passed her assessment to be a Certified Dog Trick Instructor and in 2020 became a Canine Hoopers U.K. Accredited Instructor too!! The most recent studies have resulted in the Accreditation as a Distinctive Dog Trainer, a Canine Arthritis Management Level 1 certificate holder and Certified in Applying Photobiomodulation (red light therapy).
Joe has been training Aero the Chocolate Labrador since December 2021 and Aero also lives with her too. Aero is part of the Dogs for Autism charity and is working towards passing her assessment, after which she will live with her family full time including her Autistic Buddy, who is age 7 and has an amazing bond with Aero!
In 2021 Joe was chosen as a winner of the prestigious Small Business Sunday award, chosen by Theo Paphitis of Dragon’s Den. Being an #SBS winner has been a huge boost during the COVID issues which affected so many Small Businesses; being able to continue to support dog owners during the lockdowns and changes was really important to Joe and she feels privileged to have been able to provide that support.
