How to get financial help with you broadband bills
Eligible broadband customers don’t know about help available
Today (10 June 2026) the National Audit Office (NAO) reported that only a third of eligible broadband customers are aware of social tariffs, meaning people on low incomes and in vulnerable circumstances could be missing out on support to help manage debt. Social tariffs
Providers should have in place special, cheaper deals for people in receipt of certain benefits (sometimes known as ‘social tariffs’). In July 2021 Ofcom set out some boundaries for effective social tariffs, such as ensuring there are no data usage caps, minimal initial up-front costs and no early termination charges.
If you, or someone in your household, claims Universal Credit, you could switch to one of these tariffs. The major providers also include those on Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance and Income Support. A few may include additional benefits, such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Attendance Allowance.
The person receiving the benefit must be the one named on the bill. For more detail on what the different providers offer see Social tariffs: Cheaper broadband and phone packages.
